What is Hashimoto Disease?

haşimato

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks the thyroid gland and reduces the functioning of the thyroid gland. It is also known as Hashimoto's disease or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. Turkey and is the most common cause of hypothyroidism worldwide.

The thyroid is a small gland in the front of the neck. It produces T3 and T4 hormones that regulate the body's use of energy.

In Hashimoto's disease, the production of thyroid hormones may drop too low. This can lead to problems in the body, including heart, brain function and metabolism, the development of a goiter, increase the susceptibility of the thyroid gland at the front of the neck to cancer, and lead to non-cancerous growth.

Hashimoto thyroiditis is more common in areas with low iodine in the diet and can also be seen in children. The top priority approach is to check the iodine level in the tissue and to use appropriate nutritional support.

Thyroid hormone is stored in the body as T4 hormone and is converted into a biologically functional T3 hormone when needed. The enzyme that makes this conversion depends on selenium, magnesium and zinc minerals.

Studies have shown that in selenium and magnesium deficiency, the T4 hormone cannot be adequately converted into the active T3 hormone. The magnesium level in the blood test may vary, it is important to check intracellular magnesium levels in terms of the effectiveness of this mineral. Choosing appropriate forms of selenium, magnesium and zinc minerals and using nutritional supplements is important for Hashimoto patients.
